TECH IS CASTED

(I don’t own the rights for this image)
Wait, wait! Hear me out, before the guns come out and I face the law of the techies, I can explain. 👇🏽
Everybody is talking about tech, everywhere I turn #tech #NonTechInTech #womenintech, even #Luxuryblackgirltiktok is filled with women giving diverse tech job options and opportunities. If you think I’m joking, Check, Whether it be full time, part-time, on-site or remote.
I had a little talk with a #techboy to know how he worked the tech dream in Nigeria👇🏽
Q1: First of all tell me your name and what you do.
Reply: jujunwa @jujuboy.
I’m a 3D generalist, I do AR/VR visualisation for AR and Metaverse Projects.
Q2: How did you stumble upon the tech space?
Reply: It was basically my friends
They were always talking tech, pushing my imagination, recommending movies, courses, article and jobs.
I’ve always had a flair, my friends just gave the extra push
Q3: Take me through your learning process.
Reply:I don’t have a definite learning process.
I just look for what is most necessary for whatever I’m working on. That’s how I learn, I don’t try to learn everything at once, I learn what I need when I need it.
But it basically starts from me facing a problem, then I hit Google and take it from there.
Then I head to YouTube, look for related tweets and finally find my way to blog posts. The last resort is usually a paid course.
But I hardly go that far, I have friends that know almost everything or at least where to find them
Q4: You’re a Nigerian, till this moment parents do not understand this our laptop carrying generation. What was the dynamic like for you with your parents through your learning period or didn’t you have to explain yourself at all?
Reply:My parents hated me being on my pc, cos once I’m with her I hardly remember anything else (except food). But then bills have to be paid, and it wasn’t easy for them. At some point they started liking the fact that I was being useful to myself and them, They don’t understand what I’m doing, but at least they trust me to do what’s best for me
Q5: What are the hurdles you think every aspiring techie/ newbie should know about before going into the space?
Reply:First hurdle, it’s not as easy as we make it.
You’ll need data, lots of it, and food and alot of free time, You’ll need to make friends with people everywhere, some of them won’t be nice.
You’ll get frustrated when you’re not moving fast enough.
You’ll need to change how you think, what information you consume and the kind of events you attended, It’s a whole new world out there, but it’s worth it.
Q6: Asides from what you do, tell me other tech jobs that are lucrative.
Reply:I don’t like to look at tech from the money perspective, everything pays well depending where you are but Engineering is the heart of it you’ll never lack something to do; Development, product design, project management, research and analysis, communications.
These are the most popular, and price can vary depending on your engagement, Anything outside these can be considered as a non-tech tech job, everything pays. You just need to land the gig first.
Q7: Tell us what year you started & entice us 🌝what’s your highest Cheque since you started(optional).
Reply: I can’t even say I’ve started yet, I feel I’m still learning and experimenting. I don’t think I can call myself a tech bro yet. That time will come.
Me in my head: I’ve never ever seen someone so humbly escape a question like this but who am I to say pim? LOL.
So I went on to ask someone else if they think tech is casted👇🏽
Reply: Yeah it’s more popular than ever, So it’s harder to pay now than before. No it’s not *yet* casted, but we’re getting there. Trust me, the situation can be worse Like what happened to NFTs, Beautiful casting.
I think I agree, what do you think?
THE END.
